Kingdoms of the Mists
Who is Victor Mordenhiem?
Doctor Victor Mordenhiem is a rarity in the Kingdoms as he seeks to understand and perhaps change the world around him but absolutely rejects magic- be it arcane or divine- in his efforts. While he does not go so far as to deny the existence, or indeed, even the effectiveness of ‘spell casting’, he maintains what mages and cleric call ‘magic’ is actually manipulation of the natural laws of the world by beings beyond our comprehension. Doctor Mordenhiem sees any engagement with these nameless powers as servitude. “I will not accept what our self-appointed masters see fit to give us,” he writes in one of his many treatises. “I will have all of the truth, and will settle for nothing less than a complete understanding of of life itself.” He calls this objective, mundane study of the natural world ‘science.’
Where Does He Reside?
Doctor Mordenhiem dwells in a towering manor house on the storm-tossed coast of Lamordia. He is not the ruler of this domain, preferring to remain neutral in the politics of the kingdoms.
How Does He Influence The World?
Doctor Mordenhiem is a prolific writer and his papers, treatises, statements, essays and dissertations are eagerly collected and passed on by those who are fascinated by his studies and discoveries. That many of his faithful employ small magic to swiftly copy his writings is an irony that amuses the doctor’s critics to no end. A favorable relationship with Victor Mordenhiem means you are well versed in his teachings, and may even be considered a peer, even if you embrace spellcasting. He is on good terms with several open minded wizards and clerics of some renown and enjoys verbal sparring with these capable persons. Conflicted or negative relationships could mean antagonistic outlook towards his views or even the active destruction of his writing.
